Sheeran to Extend Town Sponsorship
Friday, 3rd May 2024 22:25

Ed Sheeran has revealed he has agreed to extend his sponsorship of the Blues into a fourth season but won’t be at Portman Road tomorrow.

Framlingham-based pop star Sheeran has sponsored Town’s men’s and women’s shirts since the 2021/22 campaign.

The 33-year-old, Town's number 17 shirt, is currently on tour in the US and as a result won’t be at tomorrow’s end-of-season game against Huddersfield at Portman Road when Town could confirm their return to the Premier League.

“I’ve signed on to sponsor them next season and if they get into the Prem it’s not going to pay for itself!” Sheeran, who would have been 11 last time the Blues were in the top flight, joked when speaking to Sky Sports F1 at the Miami Grand Prix, before outlining the permutations which would see Town promoted ahead of Leeds.

“It is a shame to miss the game but I’ve just bumped into a load of Ipswich fans here and we’re all going to meet up and watch it here.”

Great news. The best sponsor - and am sure he has bought in a few International fans as well.

I was really hoping we'd persuade Magical Vegas to come back.

In seriousness us having a gambling company on the front of our beloved shirts was, regardless of football, the lowest point, for me, in the last twenty years. Well done Ed.

Well, if he's not using his ticket, I'll be happy to fill in for him.

If we get promoted then a few fans will have a hell of a story.

"Were you there when we beat Huddersfield to win promotion to the Premier League?"

"No, I was watching in a bar in Miami with Ed Sheeran!"

A megastar who is down to earth - how is that possible? We are lucky to have him promoting Ipswich around the world.

He was there for us in league 1, there for us in the championship. Its only right for the premiership! ( (Hopefully!)

I'm sure we probably could have touted ourselves around following our new found fame, to find a sponsor who'd probably pay more money - but I'm so glad we've stuck with Ed again this year. He chose us when we were down in league one and I'm glad that we have showed some loyalty too now we're on the cusp of the Premier league. Such a shame he can't be in Ipswich to celebrate with us, but like he said, that sponsorship doesn't pay for itself! He'd deffo be here if he wasnt performing. Enjoy Miami Ed, let's hope the lads do it today and see you back at PR next season!

I misread the start of that third paragraph 'The 33 year old, Town's number 17 shirt, is currently on loan in the US...'

Who can be an F1 fan these days?...so predictable - but glad he's shirt sponsor for another season!
