Chelsea have the option to recall Charlton Athletic youngster

Chelsea have the option to recall Charlton Athletic youngster Conor Gallagher and could opt to do so according to reports by The Sun.

The midfielder has enjoyed a fine start to life in the Championship under the stewardship of Lee Bowyer and had netted five goals in the second tier of English football.

The 19-year-old does however have a clause in his current loan deal which could see him return to Stamford Bridge to either be loaned out to a bigger club or sold in order to gain a profit for the youngster.

The hierarchy at Chelsea have been keeping a watchful eye on the teenager and have been impressed with a number of dazzling displays in midfield and a recall could also mean integration into Frank Lampard’s squad as has been the case for other academy graduates due to their current transfer ban.

Gallagher has also starred on the international stage and played a pivotal role on Friday against Albania as he scored the second goal in a 3-0 victory for the young Three Lions.

The most likely outcome at this stage is that he will remain at The Valley in order to gain regular first team football but rumours of a recall will surely be of concern to Addicks supporters and the club as they look to retain one of their most talented players so far this campaign.

However, in words which will delight Charlton fans, Gallagher has expressed how happy he is with life at Charlton playing under Lee Bowyer.

“He’s great. I’ve only worked under him for a couple of months now but I’ve loved it. He was a top midfielder back in the day and knows his stuff. He has played at the top level so it’s a lot to learn to make the box every time and that is how I’ve scored my goals this season. I am looking forward to working under him for the end of the season.”
