Salford City manager Karl Robinson says no other English Football League club can compare with now ex-League Two rivals Wrexham.

Since the Hollywood takeover by actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in November 2020, the Welsh outfit have propelled up the football pyramid.

Salford had their own cash injection in 2014, winning four promotions in nine years following the Manchester United Class of 92 takeover.

Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes joined forces to work alongside Singaporean business magnate, Peter Lim, with David Beckham later taking a ten per cent stake.

Salford boss Robinson joined talkSPORT's White and Jordan show on Thursday, and ex-Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan brought up how The Ammies have got on in the EFL compared to Wrexham.

Whilst the Manchester United legend co-owned outfit have stayed in League Two for five seasons, Wrexham claimed promotion this term at the first time of asking after going up as champions from the National League in 2023.

"I think if [Salford] were going to have done anything, they would've done it by now," Jordan said.

Robsion then interjected, replying: "One thing I have learnt over the last couple of months, coming from the non-league circuits where they can spend whatever they want to get out of the league, the Financial Fair Play certainly bites when you overspend in the Conference then go into the Football League.

"There's more regulations that make it difficult."

"Absolutely," Jordan responded. "The only thing I will say is the opportunity to monetise the football club beyond Peter Lim's money hasn't been taken.

"If you look at Wrexham, and you look at what Ryan Reynolds [and Rob McElhenney] have done, it's a celebrity ownership. [Salford] are the same, except they happen to be footballers."

He continued: "You can see what Wrexham have done now and they've got thousands of fans going to the stadium, they've got the utilisation of social media, they've got a real drive on, we'll see."

Salford ended the season in 20th, nine points off the drop after Robinson successfully steered them away from danger after joining in January.

On their way to safety, Salford defeated Wrexham 3-1 at home, marking one of ten of Wrexham's losses in their promotion season that saw them go up as runners-up to Stockport.

When asked if he was looking forward to next season, Robinson also reflected on Wrexham rocketing through the pyramid.

He remarked: "Yeah we're looking forward to it. Like [Jordan] said before, I don't think anyone can compare with Wrexham.

"Their revenue now, their commercial revenue stream is way beyond anything we've ever seen in the EFL for a club of their size.

"Obviously, they've got a bit of history and culture as well, Wrexham.

"For us, I still feel they'll be some sort of movement and change with Salford in the summer."

When asked by Jim White what that change will be, he said: "There's things going on behind the scenes at the football club.

"They've openly come out and said what the next stage of the journey is going to look like and looking for other investors along that journey as well.

"We hope that next stage of it can catapult the club!"

In February, the Class of 92-owned League Two outfit began looking to attract outside investment to help fund its ambition to become a Championship club.

Speaking earlier this month, Neville declared he has felt 'disconnected' from the club since standing down from his operational role due to his media duties.

He said on Stick to Football podcast: "I’m still an owner of Salford City, but the lads have been operational in the club, which I haven’t been doing.

"I felt massive pressure at games, less so now, because when you’re not making the decisions every day that are responsible for spending the money or bringing the players/managers in.

"Obviously, I watch every Salford game, usually by a link or in the stadium, but I am watching every week.

"However, because I’m not making the decisions every day, I feel disconnected, but I’m still desperate for them to win every single week."
