Leicester Claim Title
Monday, 29th Apr 2024 22:44

Leicester City claimed the Championship title following a 3-0 victory over Preston North End at Deepdale this evening.

Jamie Vardy netted in each half before Kasey McAteer added the third for the Foxes, who had already confirmed promotion via last Tuesday’s 5-0 thrashing of Southampton.

Prior to tonight, Town could have caught Leicester but the Midlanders are now seven points ahead of both the Blues, who have two games to play, and second-placed Leeds, who have one.

Town need four points from their two matches to confirm a place in the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.

Is it just me or is the table snip above, and the full table on the "Tables" page, only showing the home record for Wins, Draws and Losses (or "loss" singular, in the case of Ipswich :-) ?)

It's just you Phil! ;-) Coventry will get the same treatment as Preston did last night. Can't wait, going to be a long day!

Congratulations to Leicester. It’s no coincidence that their improvement in results has come along as they have found their goalscoring form. This is especially true of Jamie Vardy who has scored 4 in 3 games. Who’s going to step up for us. Is it going to be Hirst or Chappers or is Omari going to keep banging them in? Hopefully all of the above. COYB

Congratulations Leicester. The best team, of course.

Deserved? You are proof that cheating on and off the field really does pay. I’m surprised Dewsbury-Jellylegs isn’t lying down in front of the congrats board since he’s spent half the season on the ground.

A few points deducted maybe, a token fine and £300m in the bank. Bargain of the century.

2ND place for us would be awesome we have battled the ex prems all season and held our ground. Still cant take it as done yet, Its two nail biting games to go [thats if you have any nails left ] personally im down to my elbows . Everything crossed that the boys still have enough in the tank after the Hull game to get the job done . coyb

Hopefully they'll start off next season with their points deduction seeing as it strangely hasn't emerged this.

A nice minus 15 would be nice..along with Forest,Everton & Man City.

Got very lucky with the West Brom game at home where they should have got a point at very most...that was enough to give them breathing space to push on. How about us having some luck at this time!

Plymouth won the league 1 title last season, we came second. Take a look at the championship table. Just saying!

Leicester's wage bill must be stratospheric. No doubt they will become a yo-yo team and keep avoiding points deductions via various loopholes...

It's not really an achievement when you consider their payroll versus ours. The fact we have kept up with them the entire season should be prompting questions from their owners about why they are overspending on a squad that barely beat a league one team. Because at our core, we are mostly the same team that were promoted last season and that speaks volumes to the quality and passion of our squad and leadership.
