Kalvin Phillips has four caps for England

Leeds United and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.

Phillips, 24, suffered the injury in Leeds' 1-0 Premier League home defeat by Wolves on Monday.

The Elland Road club said he does not need surgery but faces a spell on the sidelines.

Phillips helped Leeds to promotion from the Championship last season and has broken into the England team this year, winning four caps.

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds side are 10th in the Premier League with seven points from their opening five matches.

A club statementexternal-link on Tuesday said: "Kalvin began his rehab at Thorp Arch this morning and will be working hard with the medical team to return to action as soon as possible."

    No supporter (worth knowing) of any team wants to see any player injured.

    Philips is a real talent and hopefully he makes a full, and timely, recovery.

    That goes for VVD as well.

    Bad luck for Phillips but a genuine accident unlike the appalling assault by Pickford which may have ended VVDs season.

    Massive news, Leeds have been the team to watch this season and they have lit up the league, this should be the headline story not hidden away below the Womens football, NFL and American Basketball.

    Struijk has come on so much during his short education with Leeds. He has more than enough in his locker to transition into a Kalvin Phillips and beyond. Phillips looked spent last night and not 100%. An unfortunate time for Leeds with injuries, but they have a squad in depth with youthful players waiting for a step up and seize any opportunity.     Maybe someone can explain to me why Jimenez wasn't sent off last night not even booked . Seems like double standards to me! Pickford nearly finishes a players career and is not dismissed, not to mention mane's theatrics week in week out. Come on those responsible for Var sort it out to do away with it.

    Tough news for Kalvin and Leeds but there needs to be a sense of perspective over the length of the layoff, example Liverpool will have Van Dijk out probably for the whole season. We are not the only club who will suffer injuries to key players this campaign, it's about how you bounce back from these setbacks.

    A lot of soccer being played currently, which increases the chance of countless player injuries. Just ask us at Leicester where we have at least 5 first teamers out currently.. plus playing Praet & Maddison for about 30 mins. per game as they are just not fit. Sheff.Utd. Burnley & Man City are in the same boat. We all just must get on with it.

    It's situations like this where a Manager comes to the fore. Mr Bielsa has plenty of experience and I'm sure he'll have a solution. Whether that solution is good enough, only time will tell. I wish the player and Leeds all the best as they play positive attractive football and it would be a shame if their chances of survival were diminshed through an injury rather than poor performances.

    Struijk played the holding midfield role at the end of last season and looked fine (and even more at home in that role than he does at CB).

    Leeds don't rely heavily on any individual player so this will be a loss but not a huge problem.
